MOHSIN EYE BANK – Project 1

What is Eye Donation and Eye Banking?

It is interesting to know that vision restoration through eye donation was conceived long ago. Research has helped in the evaluation of, and usage of precious material (Donor eye). The first eye bank was established in 1944 (New York, USA). The eye bank association of India was formed in 1989 with the objective of creating awareness about eye donation. These eye banks, centres with trained technical people are the pillars in this field. Trained technicians collect corneas from donors, screen, store, and supply them to trained eye surgeons for use in the surgical procedure called “cornea grafting”.

    MOHSIN EYE BANK

Eye Bank (Managed by VEBART Trust) came into existence in 2001, thanks to the generous contribution of Rs. 5, 00,000/- towards initial corpus fund by our founder trustee and Philanthropists late Sri Kasim S. Mehdi, of Mohsin Brothers Foundation.

Mohsin Eye Bank has won many an accolades and recognition since inception (18 years). This credit is due to the Trustees Integrity, Dedication and Commitment to the cause and ensuring every rupee received by way of donation is judiciously spent. It is a matter of pride that today Mohsin Eye Bank has become synonymous with Eye banking in this region. It is for this reason; L V Prasad Eye Institute Hyderabad approached us to collaborate with them at their Vizag Centre in
